H1 6 years ends Jan 2017 - GC start time

My employer says there is time and will do GC when in the fifth year.

 

My H1b 6 years will be over on Jan 4th 2017. I am assuming my GC process  should start sometime in 2015 for me to be not too late.

 

Can the better informed here tell me when it will be too late ?

5th year is a bit too late. Better to start by 4th year.

Your employer may have reason to delay filing. It is up to him whether and when to file.
