2-yr assigment abroad with I-485 pending

Here's my situation: I-485 is pending (EB2, PD is Mar 08). We ( spouse is my dependant) have our EAD/AP combo cards valid till 2015. I also have a valid H1. I've been working with the same company for the past 8 yrs (no job changes). They have offered me an opportunity to take up an overseas assignment in India for 2-3 yrs. I'll still be on their US payroll.

My question is

1. Could I file AC21 to include overseas travel as part of my job profile. If yes, can I continue to maintain AOS and travel back and forth (if needed) using the EAD card or

2. Is it best to go for consular processing?

My concern going with the AOS option is whether we will face scrutiny at the POE, considering we would have been out of the country for an extended period of time. We could travel back to the US every 6 mos or so, but even that may be viewed as a long absence from the country.

If anyone has faced a similar situation, I'd appreciate any insight.

You have an unusual situation, and it would be best to contact a qualified lawyer. One thing for sure - the AC21 job cannot abroad.
