Change of Status from OPT to CPT 40 hours.

Recommended Posts

My OPT is expiring and I am still on F-1 visa status. I would be joining a University and get CPT for 40 hours but it takes 2 weeks to transfer my sevis and get CPT. I was told by the university that I shouldn't work and should be off payroll for those two weeks. I spoke to my Company. Is it possible for me apply for LOA or my manager has to terminate and rehire me? Please anybody guide me on this. I am a full-time employee

Hmm.....do you know the meaning of CPT??

CPT is not a work visa to work 40hrs a week.Working in CPT is against rules unless and until its part of your F1 program.

CPT is for students. H1 is for FTE.

If you want to end your future in US then work in CPT else forget CPT. Once you work in CPT your H1 will be rejected in future, in case if your employer files.

Forget CPT. It is NOT and has NEVER been for working in some arbitrary job.

What you try to do looks like CPT abuse. This will backfire. It will kill your future career in the US.

And the "university" is obviously very shady. Stay away from them.

but the university is accredited. What should I do?

It's not about the accreditation. It's about the rules.

If you want to study got for F1, if you want to work go for H1.

If you don't have option of OPT ext, COS to H4( if you are married) or leave US within 60days.
