Registering marriage in India and processing time to get certificate

Hi All,

Does anyone know current procedure for registering marriage in India? What all documents do I need and how much time does it take to get the certificate?

If anyone can share his/her experience that would be grate.

Issuance of marriage certificate is state specific. Every state has its own procedure and timelines. However, as a general trend, you have to appear in court with your spouse and two witnesses (preferable one from each side), everybody's ID proof, marriage invitation card, photographs and receipt for the place you booked for marriage.

With these documents, Almost every state issues the marriage certificate the same day. but again, every state has some or the other peculiar rule. Its a little difficult to comment on the process without the knowledge of state.
