sundarns Posted February 19, 2013 Report Share Posted February 19, 2013 I, Spouse and my two Kids (16 and 13) are eligible now to apply for citizenship. My First child definitely needs that before applying for colleges in Oct-Nov 2013 (early admission). But we are planning a trip to India in this summer June-July 2013. My questions are... 1. If we apply in Month of March'2013 - do we get interview and oath at the time of June/July? How long the process usually takes - from application to interview to Oath to passport? Time frame? 2. Is it OK, if only one of the parents apply and the other parent apply after August 2013 (after return from India) 3. Is it anyway just the children become citizens when they are eligible (without applying for parents) Thanks sundarnss Link to comment
JoeF Posted February 20, 2013 Report Share Posted February 20, 2013 Why would the child "need" citizenship before applying for college? There is no difference between LPRs and citizens for college tuition, financial aid, etc. The timeframe for naturalization is roughly 4-6 months. If one parent becomes a citizen, minor children would automatically become citizens based on the Child Citizenship Act. Link to comment
