sudeer
Hello, I am planning to send my parents for the visitors visa next month, but they will be coming here after 3 or 4 months. With new visa format, i heard that the visitors visa is given only for 6 months (not like earlier times which was given 10 years multiple entry visa). Can you let me know if i send them next month for the visa and if they come after 3 months or when ever we plan for it - is it possible for them to stay here for 6 months. In other words - is it that they will get the visa for 6 months from the date they have attend the visa interview. Please let me know. Thanks, Sudeer. Link to comment
pontevecchio
Firstly you are wrong. No new rules. Secondly once they enter within the validity of the visa they are usually granted 6 months for the first time on their I94 which dictates how long they can stay. Link to comment
sudeer
So, is it true that visa is given for 6 months from the date of visa appointment?. Please reply. Link to comment
pontevecchio
The visa which is a physical stamp in the passport may be given for any duration up to 10 years. As long as a person enters the USA before the visa expires the POE Officer will usually give 6 months of stay via the I94. What part of "you are wrong" is not clear? Link to comment
t75
NO. The visa duration can be from a very few days to 10 years - or denied completely - depending on the circumstances and the visa officer's evaluation of the applicants. Link to comment
