F1 to H1B transfer

I'am currently a student under F1 Status and I want to start working.

I spoke to a consultant who is prepared to sponsor my H1B, but he wants to first get an OPT/CPT.

I wanted to know if this intermediate step is absolutely necessary.

Any input is appreciated.

There is nothing like completing OPT/CPT first to get H1b.

Btw, stay away from consulting jobs. If still interested, read the USCIS's guidelines about multilayer and employee- employer relationship.

Just a reminder, paying H1b by employees is illegal. Report to ICE if you find any employer asking for H1b fees by beneficiary.

Forget CPT. That is not for working in some arbitrary job. It is only for working as integral part of the curriculum, e.g., as intern.

You can use pre-completion OPT to work during the summer recess. But you would have to enroll for fall, otherwise, your stay during summer would be illegal.

If the employer really wants you, they would just file an H1 for you, with a start date of Oct. 1. And stay away from any employer who wants money from you for the H1, even if he "promises" to give it back to you.
