When can apply for green card after I get H1B

I have H1 B approved .After how many days or month can I apply for green card?

Is there an eligibility criteria for that or Can I ask my employer to start the green card process right away?

Also I have

Master degree in comp science - Graduated in Dec 2009

Experience in IT industry - 2yrs after graduation.

can I apply in EB2 category?

H1 and GC are two completely independent things. A person doesn't need to be on H1 to have an employment-based GC pending.

Having said that, most employers want to see the quality of your work before they spend the money for a GC application.

To answer your question on EB2 eligibility - that really depends on the minimum job requirement. If the job requires masters or bachelors plus 5 years then you will qualify for EB2 else not.
