I am right now working with an employer in my CPT. My CPT gets over by Jan 17th for this semester. My employer had filed for my H1B on Nov 7th. I tried to track my receipt number but it says the number is invalid ( not yet updated ). If my H1B doesn't get approved before Jan 17th will go out of status ? I am planning to discontinue my studies.. I already have my Masters degree from US now I am in my PhD.. and I don't want to continue pursuing it.

USCIS will need to approve your h1b before your CPT expires. If you are expecting a delay, you can extend your CPT by a semester. If your h1b is rejected you will be out of status, if you haven't extended your CPT.

Why not to apply in premium. That's what my company did for me. I am also on CPT.
