murthy439
Hi, I have filed my green-card through my husband's Citizenship. I am currently not working as I do not have work visa, my H1 expired on Oct. Currently I have two cases pending, Change of status from H1 to F1 and Green-card. Since my case (change of status/GC) is pending, I am not illegal. In that scenario, is it possible for me to go back to my work as a volunteer? Not get paid but just work as a volunteer.... Any information you can provide is very helpful! Thank you very much Link to comment
JoeF
You would need an EAD to work. If you have filed an I-485, you can also apply for an EAD. The EAD allows you to work. Link to comment
pontevecchio
Have you applied for an EAD? Link to comment
murthy439
Thank you both for your comments. Yes I have applied for EAD, but I just filed for my GC this week. So I was wondering until I get my EAD since my case is pending, is it ok to work (unpaid) as a volunteer. Link to comment
JoeF
You have to wait for the EAD to show up. You can not work without it. And volunteering for a for-profit company is usually illegal, anyway. The minimum wage laws exist for a reason. Link to comment
