Family based GC or Employer based GC

I am currently on H1B visa (until March 2013) and my brother is a US citizen and wants to sponsor a Green card for me through the family based Green card process.

I am in a dilemma whether I should apply for a Green card through my employer or through family based Green card.

1. Can I apply via both - is it possible to have two petitions at the same time through different

categories?

2. Which would be a faster way to get my EAD?

3. If I go for my H1B visa stamping to India will that be a problem since I have applied for my

Green card?
