My wife applied for H4 visa on 25 April 2011.

VO checkecd the W2 forms and said need to have second round of interview. There a lady asked couple of questions she returned the passport and Issued 221(g) Blue Slip saying that she cannot issue the visa at present and have to go for Administrative proicessing. No additional documents were requested.

When checked on the website about the case it say case is still in processing.

How many days does it take for them to come out with decision?

Its almost 10 days.

Hi Nagesh,

My wife and I applied together on Feb 22, 2011 at the Kolkata consulate for for H4 and H1B visas respectively. Both of our applications were put under 221g. I was handed the green slip while she received a pink slip. No documents were requested from her. I received my passport with the visa about 5 weeks later but my wife is still awaiting her H4 visa. I tried contacting the consulate, the Dept of State as well as through my company lawyers but to no avail. Its almost 4 months now and the status still shows as "pending". From what I have read in other forums it seems that you just have to wait for it and hope for the best. Any luck with anyone else?

I am back in the US. You can try contacting the Dept. of State (DOS) but they will repeat what is already reflected on the consulate/embassy website. Not too much of help. The DOS number is 202-663-1225 followed by prompts 1 & 0. They will ask for your wife's passport number.

I came across a similar topic in this forum. Although its a year old but it can provide you some insight into this painfully lengthy ordeal of administrative processing. Good luck and let me know if there is any development at your end.

Hmmm...

Even my case is as similar to many of the H4 folks..I took appointment on May10th and they requested for few more docs(221(g) Yellow slip) as my husband is in US and he got his H1-B extension and which was not stampped in his passport. So I provided them all of the requested docs(on May 25th)...No luck till today..and My case is not showing in the HYD-website as wel1. No idea when these chops will speed up H4 process. I e-mailed to Infohyd mail id regarding my Case status..

I am also in the same phase. Waiting from April 2011.

It seem that the Embassy is targeting the dependents now for no reason. In some cases i see, that they are approving h1b and still having the H4 in pending status.

I have been following the forum and I see there are lot of cases where the H4 is being onhold and this is happening mostly from starting of this year.

Attorney Murthy - Is there a way we can send a combined/consolidated request to the embassy or DOS or who ever responsible.

There need to be a time limit for the administrative processing.

Can anyone help us ???

Yep your right ,they are targeting more on H4's not sure why..One of my Friend came to INDIA for H1b Stamping(with extension approved in US),got stamped with in 1 month and asked for doccumnets repeatedly 3 times. Embassy only knows what makes them more secure in delaying/declined H-4's instead of H1's.

While going through this forum, I came across a website called "Open Homeland Security" that is managed by the US Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) through an independent third party agency - IdeaScale. As you can see, the "221g Administrative Processing" has been voted as the #1 issue faced by majority of visa-seekers. I would highly suggest voting for it, so that DHS takes note of this and at some point resolves this issue so that such 221g applications are processed within a fixed time-frame rather than the "no time-frame" policy in place right now.

i am in the same boat. I appeared for the interview on may 19..its been more than a month.I have submiteed documetns twice. My spouse h1b stamping has been pending since 2 weeks. Worst part is that he is stuck in mexico. I don't understand why they are delaying everything..when we all have clean records and genuine documents/proof.

Till few years back, it was taken for granted that the dependent visas were issued very easily. However, now it does not seem so. From what I have read in this and other forums, the time taken to process such dependent visas (H4/F2/J2) under 221g cases can range from anywhere between a month or less to a whole year! And some cases have been refused altogether! I don't intend to scare anyone but thats the fact! My wife's case has been pending for a little over 4 months now.

Few points/suggestions:

1. Every case is different and so the time needed to process it will vary.

2. Try contacting the Embassy/Consulate (I emailed them and got the same answer every time - "Pending").

3. Try contacting the DOS (I tried and got the same answer as what the consulate told me - "Pending").

4. Try contacting an attorney (I tried through my company lawyers and still got the same answer - "Pending").

5. Try contacting your local state senator (haven't tried this yet).

6. If all else fails, try praying!

@Saif007

You are correct. I got the same response when i contacted Hyd Consulate,DOS and my employer says to wait for further more months(nothing cant be done my company side).

I contacted one of the attorney and they say for a typically 221 g case it takes 8-12 weeks for processing,if we dont get any response then we should contact any congressional representative( i dont know how to contact them). Its almost 10 weeks, so needs to work on contacting congressional representavive.

Thanks,

Nagesh
