YOU can do nothing for GC unless you happen to be a very highly skilled professional. Typically you would have to be sponsored by your employer. Since you talk about "client letter", I would not expect for you to qualify in the "exceptional" categories.

Read the USCIS website to learn the different types of employment based GCs.

If you are not on a project and getting paid, you are out of status and this will present problems if and when you are processed for a GC. If you are not actively employed and paid, go home while you look for a new position.
