nhe
Hi, I recently got US citizenship through naturalization but my wife's case still in process (her interview is done but oath is due in late April). I have a son who just turned 18 but just before I got my citizenship. Few questions related to my son - Since he is 18 already, so he cannot get US citizenship as dependent, is that correct? Does he need to file N400 of his own now similar to what I did for my citizenship.? In that case should he wait till his mom (my wife) also gets the citizenship which is likely to be getting in a month or two? Reason I am asking this since in citizenship application, it ask if the parents are US citizen or not. Does the parents status as US citizenship will help in his application or it does not really matter in that case he should apply it right away. He is eligible to apply since he has got green card for than 5 years by now. Please guide/suggest. Thanks, HK Quote Link to comment
newacct
He needs to file N-400 on his own. He can file it now. The answer to the question about whether his parents are US citizens doesn't matter. (It's just to see if he might already be a US citizen. In this case, we know he isn't.) Quote Link to comment
JoeF
He needs to file his own N-400. It doesn't matter if his mother is a citizen. Quote Link to comment
