How long can you postpone the Oath ceremony for travel abroad?

Recommended Posts

I need to travel abroad in early May and will return back in early July this year. I completed my interview on Feb 3rd and waiting for the oath ceremony letter. I am planning to postpone my oath ceremony to July, stating the reason for my travel. Reason to postpone - India is not granting the visiting visa for any foreign citizens due to pandemic, and also since there is not enough time to apply for USA passport, denounce Indian passport, and apply for India visa. I am traveling to attend my fathers one year death anniversary. The question I have is will USCIS allow to postpone the Oath ceremony for 4 to 5 months? Is there a limit that the oath needs to be taken with in certain number of days after the interview by USCIS rules? Appreciate your help.

Hello, I'm in a similar boat with respect to travel. Have you seen the following information on the USCIS site?

" If you cannot attend your scheduled naturalization ceremony, return the notice, Form N-445, Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony, to your local USCIS office, along with a letter requesting a new date and explaining why you cannot attend the scheduled naturalization ceremony. Failing to appear more than once for your naturalization ceremony may lead to a denial of your application. "

I'm curious to know if you had an opportunity to pick a date for the Oath Ceremony during the interview? Is it possible at all?

General question: Do we have to wait for the letter or can we call USCIS contact center to reschedule?

It would be great if gurus can weigh in on this topic.
