Citizenship for new born

Hi,

Both, me and my wife are currently LPR ( Green-Card ) and we're expecting a child in the next couple of months.

Does my to be born child become eligible for US Citizenship by birth in USA?

If yes,

  • What is the procedure to get their US Citizenship and passport?
  • Are there any pre-requisites before that is applied for them - such as, applying to first become a LPR ?
  • Do I need an immigration lawyer to file for this or I can self file?

Thanks for your help

Every child born in the US (except children of diplomats) is automatically a US citizen by birth. You get the birth certificate that shows the child born in the US, and with that you can apply for a US passport for the child. That's all there is to it.
