J-1 Persecution/hardship waiver 2020 timeline

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Anyone here applied for persecution/hardship waiver in 2020 and received a favorable recommendation?

I applied by the end of Jan and my case was transferred to Nebraska service center after a month of the application, I have not received any update regarding my case since then.

Thanks,

I am sorry I couldn't answer your question as I applied recently. I just want to ask you, how long it took you to get receipt from USCIS?

Hi! I've applied for hardship waiver in October and my timeline is as follows:

Oct 2019: Application Filed

Jan 2020: RFE recieved

Feb 2020: RFE replied

Jul 2020: i-612/i-613 send to DOS

I think it still will be at least 5-6 months (in the best case scenario) till I get the final decision. Hope that helps!

@MishaG, any news from DOS? In my case DOS received the i612/613 on May 13. No news/movement from them.

No answer yet. Do you know if it means my waiver was approved if USCIS sent i612/613 to DoS?

It does not mean approved. DOS will provide a recommendation for approval to USCIS and only then USCIS will decide whether to approve.
