Legal Custody / Adoption of niece (Both parents passed away)

Hello Everyone,

 

I am looking for some help and guidance from our community. I am trying to understand my options to get legal custody or adopt my niece from India whichever is faster.

Both her parents passed away recently and I am the only sibling to support the child. I am a US citizen and I found an option to adopt my niece through the Hague convention Process which is extremely time consuming and takes upto 2-4 years. Currently, my mother (child's grandmother) is taking care of her in India but she is old (67+) and I need to bring the child with me as soon as possible. 

My niece has visited me on a tourist visa earlier which is still valid. If anyone has gone through a relative adoption process from India, please reach out to me at ussang@gmail.com .
