RSI
I am a green card holder and I was recently laid off due to coronavirus lockdown/closures. I live in WA state and I want to apply for unemployment benefits. Could this impact my ability to get citizenship? Can citizenship be denied if I use unemployment benefits? Quote Link to comment
shilpanag
I don't think it will affect citizenship. I am in the same boat. Read this https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-d-chapter-2#S-A-1 https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-g-chapter-10#S-B-1 Quote Link to comment
JoeF
No, it won't. It is not a public benefit, it comes out of an insurance all employers pay into. Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
Unemployment benefits are a form of insurance paid for by employers. They are not welfare. Quote Link to comment
