I-94 Extension after Passport Renewal

Hi,

I recently traveled to India and got visa Stamped with same validity date as per my i797 (Apr 2022).
but when I entered US, since my passport was valid till 23 oct 2020, got my i94 validity till 23 oct 2020 based on my passport expiry.

I have now renewed my passport in US.
Is it safe to travel to CBP office in US Mexico boarder and get I-94 extension ? 
I am planning to go very soon, before 9 months of my current I-94 expiration in OCT 2020.
Will that be done as early as now before 9 months of expiration?

Read this and make a decision. I think they outlined all the risks and process for I94 extension.

Very strange. I was in the same situation. Visa till 2022, passport expiring in 2021. But, my I94 date was stamped till 2022. I really think I just got plain lucky!! The officer possibly didn't pay attention to the passport expiry date!
