i-94 valid after passport expiry

Hi,

On my last visit to India in Feb'19, I got my H1B visa extended and stamped until Jan 2021. My passport was due for expiry on Mar 2020. But while returning at Port Of Entry, the immigration officer issued me I-94 validity until Jan 2021 instead of my passport expiry date.

My query is:

Since now I have got my passport renewed until Jun 2029, do I need to go out of the country and come back to get new I-94 validity with new passport or is the existing I-94 validity (which is until Jan 2021) works with new passport too?

That's mistake by officer. Take appointment with INFOPASS and correct error and extend till visa is valid.

No need of any action. You can stay till Jan 2021 based on your I-94 expiry date. I-94 works with new passport also.
