Sachin K
Hello, I am a green card holder since May 2014. I was in the US until April 2017 and left for India for personal reason. I hold valid re-entry permit which will expire in May 2019. I am now back to the US for a brief period. Can I apply for citizenship considering I have complete the required number of days of physical stay in the US? Can my absence from the US be distort my continuous PR status? Any guidance is appreciated. Quote Link to comment
newacct
Your "continuous residence" is interrupted, and it has to start over counting again. Quote Link to comment
JoeF
If you came back after 1 year abroad you broke the continuous residency requirements. Therefore, you would not be able to apply for naturalization. ALL requirements have to be fulfilled, with the sole exception that it is possible to apply up to 90 days before the continuous residency requirements are fulfilled. And btw, USCIS has a requirements calculator on their website. Quote Link to comment
pontevecchio
"" More importantly, any trip of one year or more-even with a reentry permit-breaks the required continuity for citizenship. An applicant who returns from a trip that is one year or longer must wait at least four years and one day before applying for naturalization."" Quote Link to comment
jawal
Hi Sachin, Could you share your experiences of reentering the USA after being outside for more than a year with a GC and reentry permit? I mean what kinds of questions they asked at the port-of-entry when you returned to the USA after a while. Thanks Quote Link to comment
