Extend expired H1B with previous employer with Approved I-140

I joined my current employer in Jun 2018 ( got 3 years extension based on previous employer's approved I-140), my previous employer's H1B petition got expired in Oct 2018, both the H1b and I-140 were not revoked by the previous employer , due to some GC process complications with the current employer, now I would like to go back to the previous employer at a different location. I have a couple of questions as stated below.

1. What's the GC process

2. What's the H1B process? Is it an extension or transfer?
