I94 renewal

I got my I94 date till January 2019 that is the passport expiry date whereas my I797 is valid till September 2020 . Now I got my passport renewed .I want to renew my I94 date as my I797 date what is the exact process..

You have to cross the border and enter with new I-94 before Jan 2019. or other option is to apply for extension of status (I-539).

CBP officer informed I-539 cannot be used for the renewal of I94 as the visa is their till 2020 and also you have to leave north America continent so no Mexico , Canada & Caribbean island... so if you have come across similar situation please update

You do not have to leave NA. You HAVE TO POLITELY INSIST ON A NEW I94 and state categorically that YOU will not be using Automatic Visa Revalidation if you are visiting Canada or Mexico. AVR is not a punishment inflicted on people. It is a choice of convenience.

Obviously I-539 is a COS and since you posted in the H1 section, I am assuming you are talking about H1 in which case I-539 is not the form. You can tell your employer to refile a H1 petition for you as an alternative.
