Prior lapse in status

Hi,

Will prior lapse in status have an effect during green card interview ?

I was on F-1 visa initially and not in status for 4 months while changing universities.

Does USCIS have a way of keeping track of lapse in status ?

I now have an approved I-140 and on H-1B  visa.

As long as you have gone abroad and returned since that episode, it will not count.

It depends on what exactly happened to you.

If you are adjusting status in an employment-based category, under 245(k), being out of status in the past is okay as long as you have been out of status or working illegally for less than 180 days since your most recent admission.

Also, if you were in F1 status, went out of status, but went back into status without leaving the US, does that mean you got an F1 reinstatement? Because if you got a reinstatement, that period is considered to be in status for adjustment of status purposes.
