H1 Expired - Fly via Paris? Air France not helpful

Hi,

I'm planning for vacation in next few weeks, with H1 expired (valid 797) and was wondering if I could travel via Paris (Air France).

So I called up Air France customer care and they were not helpful at all. They were like you can fly out, but you can't come back without valid US visa and since yours is a round trip we are not sure if you could fly with us better call US consulate. 

This was a helpful reply at all. Anybody has had similar situation with H1 expired via paris to india?

Thanks for the reply ponte, Is that still valid with expired US visa?

Got a reply from Delta airlines as the flight to Paris is through them, that I cannot fly via Paris.

This is just getting ridiculous.
