New H1 got picked up but no petition number received

Hi,

I am posting on behalf of my spouse. My wife's employer filed h1 this year and they got to know that it got picked, based on the cheque they send along with petition was deposited. It's been 2 months we got to know this. But the employer still saying they didn't receive the petition number to track the status.

Can it happen by any case? 

Employer also mentioned that one of the other employee's case was same and the check got refunded recently. Can this happen?

USCIS is unpredictable so anything is possible.

Very much possible and if this employer is a consultancy there is every possibility that he is lying too.

In any case employer's attorney should be able to put an inquiry request with USCIS on her case.
