EAD renewal with passport expiring soon

Hi, 

I need help with my EAD renewal.

My passport is expiring December 1st week and EAD expires December last week. 

I recently found out that EAD's are taking longer to process , approx 5 months. I am still waiting for my passport to come. Consulate said it should be here next week. 

The big question is should I wait for the new passport to come next week or should I go ahead and apply with the old passport. 

Also, is there a chance for the renewal to come in time since its already September 5th and renewal time is taking longer now.
