km80
Hello, I'm an Indian national who received his Green Card & is eligible for citizenship. I'm in the process of filling out the N400 form for citizenship, and would like to change my name (shorten it) as indicated in the form However, once the US citizenship has been approved I plan on filing for OCI card. Would the OCI card reflect the revised name on the US passport or would it be the old name from the Indian passport? I'm curious to know as I own property in India & I'm not sure if it would create legal complications if the name on US passport does not match my old name on property documents. Please advice. Univemp
While filing for OCI you will be asked about the name change and have to provide documentary evidence for that. It should not cause any legal complications since a number of people of Indian Origin do a name change while naturalizing and the Indian government is aware of this. Link to comment
