Should I apply for the US citizenship?

I got my GC a couple of months after getting laid off from the sponsoring company. I was looking for a job and was not expecting to get my GC. After few months, I start working for another company with my GC. It is 9 years that I have my GC and I have been working and paying taxes. I am thinking about applying for Citizenship but I am worried if they find out that I was not working when I got my GC (BTW, can they find out?). What should I do? Should I just keep my GC and forget about the citizenship?

Thank you ponteveccho. I will definitely call Murthy today. One more question: I met a lawyer on Thursday and he told me that USCIS would definitely ask about and check the petitioning company  even though it happened 9 years ago. So in his view if they find out that I didn't work for the petitioning company after I got my GC,  I have zero chance of getting n-400 approved and they might even revoke my GC. So he was wrong?
