Long processing times for H4 and H4 EAD

Hi,

I was in H4 and then moved to F1 to pursue my Master's here. I would like to convert from my F1 back to H4 and concurrently file H4 EAD as well assuming it is not revoked yet. I see that the change of status applications have a long processing time (6 + months). Should I travel back to my home country and apply for the H4 visa? If so what are the challenges and chances of rejection?
