H1B Work Permit and Freelance Work

Hello,

I have been in US on H1B visa for over 4 years now. I would like to know if there is a way I can freelance or work on outside projects if that does not interfere with my work. My job contract is only for 9 months therefore I have 3 months free. Any advice would be helpful.

No, that is NOT allowed.

On H1 you can ONLY work for the employer who filed the H1.

And you have to get paid ALL THE TIME on H1. Getting paid for 9 months only is not allowed, either, unless the H1 ends after the 9 months.

Not at all, its illegal. You are allowed to work only for the employee through whom you got H1B approved, and more specifically skill sets, location mentioned in LCA puts further limitation.

Thanks. I do get paid over 12 months for 9 months' job.
