thirdpaper
Hello all, I have just received the notice to appear for Naturalization Initial Interview at the local USCIS office (Newark NJ). What does "initial" mean? If I pass the test that day, do I get citizenship the same day? Or do I have to wait for any more steps? Thank you for your responses! Link to comment
pontevecchio
Generally there is a swearing in Ceremony at a later date where you get sworn in and get the certificate of Naturalization. Link to comment

In some districts, they do oaths on the same day as the interview. In others districts they don't. A friend recently had his interview in Los Angeles, his oath was less than 2 weeks later. If you have a name change, it generally takes a bit longer. Link to comment
Shurap1
Some USCIS local field offices have Oath ceremonies same day whereas others schedule it after couple of weeks/months. Interviewer tells you if he is recommending to approve your case or not which should help you to keep calm until Oath ceremony. Link to comment
