Spouse passport name change

Hello,

My wife is on H4 and her passport has to be renewed. We would like to get her name changed to have my last name after our marriage. Here is the timeline:

1) Got married in 2009. Did not change the passport. So passport still has maiden name.

2) The US visa, Social Security card, DL -- all have her maiden name.

2) Now wife's passport is expiring and we need to renew it.

So, is it safe to get passport renewed with name change ? We plan a trip to home country once after passport renewal. Will there be any issue with re-entry in US as the US visa is still having maiden name ? Once back to US, we plan to get the name changed in all other documents as well.
