  1. Requesting your advice for a 75 year old widow-US Citizen who migrated 20 years ago to US after losing her husband in India. She has never worked and has been getting small SSI and medicare/medi-cal benefits in US since around 10 years. She recently received a call from SSA asking her to apply for survivor benefits/pension in India now and submit formal denial or get a letter from Indian consulate stating that she is not eligible for Indian pension. Otherwise her Social Security benefits (including her medical coverage) in USA would be discontinued. She doesn't even have Aadhar card. She has painful health issues, hence can't travel. Please advise how to solve this situation so as to continue atleast her medical coverage. For e.g. is there a rule or formal document somewhere that states that she would not be eligible for widow pension/survivor benefits in India based on not having aadhar card/not being Indian resident/not having the full details of her husband's employment etc. to even apply for any such benefits in India? Her BP has gone up with this anxiety and worry that her medical benefits may not continue if she can't provide the documentation SSA is demanding. She is not a literate and doesn't know how to go about figuring out all these herself. We have migrated many years ago and don't know the processes/rules in India. On that note: we also have the following specific questions: 1) Is Aadhar card mandatory for a widow of Indian origin to get pension of any kind such as vidhwa pension or survivor benefits or family pension? Kindly share the latest official links quoting these rules that I can refer to. 2) What are the widow benefits schemes if her spouse was working in some private multiple firms and not a Government employee? 3) Should the widow be resident or living in India to apply or receive the survivor benefits? She is OCI but not Indian resident nor Indian citizen. Please share any official links to rules quoting the above, that we can then share with consulate or SSA. Thanks again!
