That's amazing! Very happy for you! I got USCIS approval 6 days later after DOS approved mine and a week later in the mail. Your case should be closed before February is over. Sigh of relief and go celebrate!!!

    J1 fear of persecution waiver

State Department received my documents on December 03 from USCIS and approved it on December 06. So I am considering this as a success. I still have to hear back the final decision from USCIS. Also, I did not work with a lawyer, but I did have a one-hour consultation with an immigration lawyer. I can give his information if anyone needs it. His consultation was really helpful for me to work on my own. Timeline: September 6, 2017 - DOS received my DS-3035 (and other documents) September 28, 2017 - USCIS received my I-612 July 17, 2018 - RFE issued by USCIS October 02, 2018 - RFE evidence sent to USCIS by me December 03, 2018 - DOS received documents from USCIS December 06, 2018 - DOS sends a favorable recommendation Now I am waiting for the final results

    J1 fear of persecution waiver

State Department received my documents on December 03 from USCIS and approved it on December 06, so yesterday! Took them 3 days to approve. But to be fair, they received DS-3035 (alongside other documents) on September 06, 2017, so 15 months ago! Hopefully, this arduous journey is over and I can feel freer now!

    J1 fear of persecution waiver

Update on my case: on November 28 USCIS asked for second opinion, it said on my account. So my case is on hold. I know it is different for everyone, some hear back in less than a week, some wait for months for DOS decision. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone have any news on their case?

You never had to send an RFE? Seems like you lucked out. Congratulations!

Any chance this was sent as a mistake? Perhaps you should call and clarify. Agree though, this is insane

What in the world? I swear this is so unnecessarily difficult. Let's hope that this is a request for a document page or something. Let us know

Does anyone get an email from uscis every 2 weeks with a standardized generic response that they are still working on my case and that there are no updates yet? Although I am not even doing a case inquiry

ah okay. I guess there is nothing else to do but wait. Someone earlier in this group said theirs was approved. If I remember correctly they sent out their RFE papers in April of this year, and got an answer in August, so that's 4 months. I say give it another month or so. Keep us updated and best of luck to you!

Nothing from me yet. Can you do a case inquiry?

Congrats to your wife then! Thats awesome. But at the same time it shows how much variation is between each case even if both of your cases were constructed on the same argument and evidence. Although why your cases are deemed different in the eyes of uscis is beyond me. Your reply should be on its way too. I hope I get some kind of response before the end of this year

    J1 fear of persecution waiver

Yeah I heard RFEs take at least 60 days to hear back from. Is your wife's case based on persecution as well? You should be hearing back anytime soon too, I hope!

Any news from anyone? I sent out my RFE last week and it was received yesterday. Now the wait starts

Hey @Preparing_To_Wait welcome to the group. My J-1 was about 6-7 years. I don't think, in fact I am confident, that how long ago you had your J-1 does not matter. I submitted my documents September 2017, currently putting together evidence for RFE. I advise you gather as much as you can in the form of documentary evidence and testimonial evidence. My lawyer says that we are again entering a hostile environment, which means a lot of people even with voluminous and well put together applications are getting RFE's. But don't feel discouraged. Do your best! I have around 400 pages of documentary evidence and a few letters from experts.

Updates on my cases: I am still working on putting together my RFE evidence. I talked to one lawyer, Brian Schmitt from Maryland. Unfortunately, his services were way beyond my budget, so I am doing this on my own for now, but still looking for lawyers who work with persecution cases. Do you guys know what should the statements of support look like? I am asking statements from my friends, as well as professors and experts. How many pages, structure, etc? I would really appreciate some information. Thank you all!
