Visa Interview Date: 05 Jan 2012 Consulate: Chennai Visa Type: H1B (First - CAP Exempt; Academic) Outcome: 221(g) pink slip for further administrative processing. Not surprised as I have a PhD in Bioengineering from USA, and work as a professor in bio-related research currently. The VO mentioned it was mandatory processing since my area of work is on the TAL. I had to undergo the same for my F1 visa renewal Post-Interview Information: Jan 11, 2012 received email that passport was being sent. Will send you an update if visa was issued.

First H1-B, CAP exempt category for academic professors. 221(g) admin processing - not too surprised, as I have an advanced degree in Bio related field and had to previously undergo the same for F1 renewal in 2010.

Yes you can for H1-B. I am a resident of AP, and attended my interview at Chennai consulate on Jan 5th, 2012. There were no objections or questions asked regarding attending the interview in Chennai.
