H4 drivers license renewal, while visa is under extension at Michigan

Hi

My h4 visa expired last week, and my license also expired within a few days of visa expiry.

I live in Michigan. we have applied for a visa extension in premium , and we got an Rfe, and my husband's employer will be taking care of it.

I went to the SOS and tried to get my license renewed with my old i797, and receipt number that was issued for my current extension. But I was told until I get the valid i797 and i94 they can't renew it.

Has anyone been through this?

You need a new I94 for DL renewal, expired I94 will not work.
