International Drivers License

My H1b expired on Sep 30, 2015.

I submitted the petition for extension on Aug 20, 2015. My H1B extension case is still under processing. Existing Drivers license is expiring on Jan 8, 2016.

 

I only have I-797C. I live in Illinois. DMV didn't renew my drivers license as I don't have I-797A.

 

Can I drive using a International Drivers License in the mean time?

No, you can not use an International Drivers License. That is only for visitors who live abroad.
