New i94 after passport renewal

Hi

I am currently on H1b. My old passport was expiring on feb 2016.

As my old passport was expiring, I also got i94 until feb 2016 however my visa is until Oct'17. Now I have got new passport and I am looking for best and quickest to get new i94.

 

Submitting form to extend i94 can be still done however this may take considerable amount of time & I would be increasing risk a lot as I won't be able to travel out of US  (in case of emergency) after feb 2015 until new i94 is issued.

 

I am also looking into option of have a short trip to Canada (before feb'16) and get new i94 while returning back.

 

Before making this decision, I would like to know if anyone have already gone though similar situation and what are the chances I might not get new i94 while returning from Canada. 

In few articles I also found that if visit to Canada is less then 30 days then i94 stamp is not renewed. Would like to know if that is correct statement.

Many have done it. At POE ask specifically for a new I94.

I have the same similar case BUT SLIGHT DEVIATION when entering into USA,CBP officer has given I94 till the expiry of my passport(may 2016) and my I797 has a validity till may 2017 but my stamping is valid till FEB 17 2016.

PLEASE Guide me what is the correct procedure to follow to extend my I94.

Exit and enter US with a new passport, valid H1B visa and I797 and get a new I94.
