Recapture h1b leftover time

Hi, I am about to extend my H1b and I have a question on how to recapture some leftover time.

 

I was laid off some time in my H1b and I filed a change of status to F1 immediately. During the period of F1 pending, I got a new job and successfully transferred my status back to H1.

 

So I wonder if I can recapture the time of F1-pending to extend my H1? My thought was that my H1 status stopped at the time when I filed COS to F1, so I should be able to recapture the F1-pending time. Could anyone give me some insights about that?
