CoolDeep
Hello Everyone, My friend came to this country on B1/B2 status in May 2014, had a validity till Oct 2014 on I94. In August 2014, he applied COS from B2 to F1 which got approved in May 2015 but his I94 is not been changed to show the validity until the completion of his course which is August 2017. Is it normal or does he have to notify CBP/USICS about the error in I94 validity date. Thanks for your Help in Advance. Link to comment
rahul412
Did he got new I94 along with F1 approval?? or is it just F1 approval notice? Link to comment
CoolDeep
He just got the approval notice. Didnt get new I94.... Link to comment
pontevecchio
He should go and enquire about the matter from his DSO ASAP. Link to comment
rahul412
He just got the approval notice. Didnt get new I94.... That means his COS is not approved, just F1 is approved. So you need to enter on F1 visa in order to go to school on F1. There is nothing wrong or error in this case. You need attend F1 visa interview before you start going to school on F1. Link to comment
jairichi
He just got the approval notice. Didnt get new I94....His COS status is denied which is common if such a route is taken. To join school your friend has to exit and enter US with a F1 visa not more than 30 days before school start date mentioned in I20. pontevecchio
Nothing called approval of F1 status without I94. What is the name of the College? Link to comment
CoolDeep
It is California State University. Link to comment
pontevecchio
You can only get F1 status by entering with the F1 visa or filing and getting COS approved while the person is still in valid legal status here. Have him talk to the DSO. Link to comment
Cyper
in my humble opinion, once he has got approval for change of status from B2 to F1, he is now allowed to enroll in the university and start his education. Normally the expiry period on F1 is considered as DoS which is Duration of Stay and it is basically the length of the studies. Yes, once he go outside the US and come back, he will be asked on both or either location at the port which can be shown. But DSO at the university should be the person you should be approaching for more clarification. P.S: Just my opinion Link to comment

P.S: Just my opinion If there is no I-94 at the bottom of the approval notice, then it was NOT approved with COS. The person can NOT attend college, and has to go abroad, get an F1 visa, and enter with that visa. If the F1 was approved without COS in May, the OP is closing on 180 days overstay. If he overstays for 180 days, he would have a 3-year ban! Link to comment
