famax
Hi , Last year I had applied for a Masters program in a university while I was on valid H4. They had issued a Change of Status I-20 for me and had discussed about enrolling in courses on H4 and in parallel, file i539 to switch to F1 visa. I later changed my mind and did not enroll in any courses and did not file i539 as well. I did not even pay SEVIS fee . Few weeks back , I got a letter from bursar office stating that I owe them tution fee for a full semester and also got a notice from a collection agency. 1 ) As far as I know , I can get as many I-20 I want , but unless I sign up for courses, I should not have been charged. Please correct me if I am wrong. 2) Having a change of status I20 really means that I must switch to F1 or enroll in courses? 3) Please advise on how to handle this . Link to comment
JoeF
You need to have things reviewed by an immigration lawyer. You may have signed something. In general, an I-20 just means that you have been accepted at the university, it doesn't mean that you actually enrolled. Care to tell us which university this is? Link to comment
