desik2003
I'm going to get a J1 short term scholar visa for a postdoc. Cannot get another J1 since I have a 2 years bar from previous participation. After that, the university might offer me an extension under H1B status. J1 short term scholars cannot apply for a change of status in any other category. I'm expected to return to my country and apply for a new visa under H1B status. Question: will the university be able to start H1B employment procedure while I will still be in US in the J1 status? So that, once H1B is approved, I could return to my country and immediately apply for H1B visa. Link to comment
JoeF
If you have a 2-year HRR, you can not get an H1 until that is fulfilled. Link to comment
desik2003
I expect to apply for the waiver for HRR, for the upcoming J1 short term visa, as soon as I will arrive to US. I have another HRR from my past visa too, that one is going to be waived soon. Theoretically second waiver could be done in 4 months. This will leave another 2 months for a H1B application. It's too complicated, I know, but I just have to analyze all the options. Link to comment
