What are the benefits for early filing of citizenship ?

There is a provision for early filing where applicant can file N400 90 calendar days prior to 5 year GC anniversary. But at the same time applicant is not eligible for naturalization until he/she reached 5 year period of continuous residence.

 

My GC 5 year anniversary is July 18, 2016. Say you get citizenship in roughly 6 months from filing N400.  So, if I file for citizenship on July 18, 2016 I get citizenship on Jan 18, 2017.

 

But if I leverage 90 calendar days early filing and file N400 on Apr 22, 2016, am I likely to get citizenship on Oct 22, 2016 ?

 

Is the true benefit of early filing is the likelihood of getting citizenship 90 days early ? What are other benefits of filing early ?

The interview will always be only after the 5-year mark.

But a bunch of processing, including biometrics, can be done before that.

As for timeframe, that depends on the local USCIS office and if a name change is requested.
