I94 - border crossing Mexico question

I am going for H1B stamping next week in Matamoros, Mexico and I am traveling by car to Brownsville, Texas and cross the border by walk.

My previous visit to US was on Dec 8 , 2013 by air travel and after that my H-1B is transferred.

1) Where should I hand my current I-94 when crossing the border by walk. I want US to properly record my exit/entry.

2) I-94 printed on I-797 is the one to hand to officer, correct?

Thanks in advance!

Surrender the current one in I797.

1. I doubt they would collect your I-94 while walking out to Mexico.

2. Yes.

When you enter US, you can hand over your I-94 to IO. I did this once in 2013 at Newark Airport.

OR

After your return, you can always mail your I-94 to CBP office in London, KY. I did that when I went to Canada and they didn't collect my I-94 even when I almost handed over.
