I-94 not updated after H4 to H1 COS

Hi,

 

I came to US on H4 visa in Jan, 2014. My H4 visa and I-94 are valid till Nov, 2014. I applied for H4 to H1 change of status and my visa application was approved in May, 2014. I got I-94 with approval notice which starts from 1st Oct, 2014. My I-94 online is still showing H4 status on 1st Oct. I need to get SSN for starting my job. I went to SSN office before 1st Oct and the officer told me to come on or after 1st Oct with online I-94 showing new status. Can I get SSN showing I797 with I-94 attached? If not, how do I get my online I-94 status changed?

You will need to go to SSN once you join your H1b employer after 1st Oct. I don't think there is a way to request any agency to update online I-94 in case of COS.

Without your H1B status kicking in you have no way to get SSN. So, it was wrong in your part to go before H1B effective date.

I went to SSN office today and my application for SSN is accepted. They considered the I-94 attached with I797.

Neha, now in online you able to see your current i94 now. My wife also facing the same issue. After oct 1st i checked in online still the current i94 is not reflecting :(

It will not reflect online.....online system is designed to show only entry/exit status not if your status change while in us itself
