Do I start residency on J2

Hi I'm holding a J2 visa and am set to start my residency next year.My husband is holding a J1 visa and is doing 2nd year of his medical residency and is subjected to HRR policy.

1) Is it advisable for me to start residency on J2 or get a Separata J1 visa for myself?

2) If I continue on J2 , what are my chances of getting a H1B once my husband goes for a waiver job, considering I will be in the middle of my residency and how long does it take for the conversion to H1B?

3) Do I need to go to my home country for stamping if at all conversion is possible?

I have heard that the rules have changed recently and any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.
