Hi

My mother and father in law went to the Hyderabad embassy for a B2 visa interview. My FIL is retired while my MIL is a home maker. The VO asked whether my FIL gets pension and he said no and is financially stable as he had some rental properties. My MIL's passport was retained while my FIL's passport was returned with a white 221G slip with administrative processing check box ticked. He was not asked to produce any supporting documentation.

1. How long might it take to hear anything from the embassy?

2. They have not asked for any supporting documentation. What are the chances of his visa being rejected?

In general, if the consular officer has reason to believe that the applicant may engage in illegal technology transfer or in any other unlawful activity, the officer should request for an advisory opinion (security clearance) from the Department of State (DOS) before issuance of visa(s). In most instances, the applicant may experience a delay of two weeks to 12 weeks, however there have been several instances where it could take several months. As long as the clearance is received by the consulate, the visa is generally issued.
