N400 in process and planned india trip

Hello:

 

My N-400 is in process since March and yet no response. I've planned an India trip for winter. Could you please let me know if my interview is delayed:

 

1. How much time I need to get a USA passport and then a visa for India?

2. If there is not enough time for the above, where can I stop the process,i.e., reschedule interview or oath ceremony  and start after the India trip?

There is a way to expedite the passport issuance. It can be done in a day (costs extra money, though.)

US Passport should not be an issue. At issue will be the Indian govt. protocols for surrendering the Indian passport and then getting a visa issued. PIO / OCI would take longer. 

 

I applied in January and had my interview in mid-April. During the interview I told the officer that i would be visiting India in June / July and would like to do the oath ceremony after I get back. She obliged and had me write a letter requesting postponement of oath. I am now scheduled for August 29th for oath ceremony.

 

So if your interview is delayed request the officer to postpone your oath ceremony.

I finally had my citizenship interview. However, the officer did not accept to reschedule my oath ceremony date and the ceremony was scheduled for November 19. I sent two letters with my India trip ticket to reschedule the date to the local office, but it did not seem worked. Today I was informed that I did not show up for the oath ceremony. Could you please let me know whats next -- will my application be abandoned and/or will get another date? If I get another date, I do not want until I'm back from India -- how to ensure that?

Your N-400 is abandoned, meaning you would have to start it over from scratch.
